On February 2, the government award for achievements in the field of medicine was presented

On Thursday, the second of February, the awards ceremony was held, which the Government of the Russian Federation awards every year for achievements in the field of science and technology. The expert council analyzed a huge number of works written by Russian scientists over the past 2016. Out of all the variety of works, only twenty – one works were noted, of which 7 were young aspiring scientists.

As a rule, this list often includes representatives of the scientific community who work in the field of medicine, creating and implementing new methods. Last year was no exception. Thus, a group of scientists who proved and tested in practice the possibility of using minimally invasive technologies in the treatment of colon cancer was awarded a government award. A treatment regimen was developed and developed, in which the treatment of the lower and middle ampullary parts of the rectum is combined. Preoperative chemotherapy helped to increase the percentage of sphincter-sparing operations to 75% (it was only 26%). This approach to the treatment of colon cancer allowed to increase the percentage of resectability to 70% from the previous 28%, thereby increasing the survival rate of patients in the previously hopeless category by 52%.
